    Warrington: 53

    Hornets send Vikings to Valhalla!

Warrington came with a team weakened by injuries and the normal close derby match was not to be as the Hornets were able to feed fit and fresh players into the game all night.

Q1 was a scrappy affair to start with, both teams missed easy points and it wasn’t until the 3rd minute that the scorers pen was brought into action. Sam Barnard scored a brace from the free throw line before Andrew Rushton went on a one man scoring spree with the Vikings unable to stop his drive.Hornets had opened a 9 point lead but Warrington brought it back with excellent outside shooting from Herridge and Vaughan. John Whelan land started his jump shot masterclass with two from short rand and Guy Johnson scored late in the quarter for the Hornets to be up by 7 at the end.

Guy , Andy Sienkiewicz and Tom Lee all scored early in Q2 and Warrington looked to be struggling. Holmes Chapel piled on the heat by applying a pressure defence. Barny and Tush benefitted from turnover ball and Danny Wareham consolidated the lead with a 3 pointer just before the break.

Hornets flew out of the blocks in Q3 - John and Tush both scored on the break and Kris Wood threw down the first of two dunk shots. Hornets were now 21 points up and there was still 17 minutes to play. Viking Warriors only go to Valhalla if they die bravely though and Warrington showed they are no pushover and every man on their team now put in a heroic effort. Hornets relied on individual work too much and were stopped by excellent defence. John Whelan continued to prove his jump shot abilities and Guy scored close in, but the lead had been cut to 16 with one quarter to go.

Kris, Danny and Tush moved the game away from the Vikings who responded again with excellent long shooting. Jake Coventry scored from close in and John Whelan landed 2 more jump shots but 6 quick points at the end for Warrington allowed them the glory and winning the last quarter.

Holmes Chapel are now top of the league while Warrington need to get their injured players back quickly to avoid a relegation struggle.
