Hornets: 77
YMCA: 86
Top of the Premier played top of the First Division with the Hornets losing after a disaster period at the start of Q3
Hornets had a small bench after a number of players had dropped due to Man Flu but all players at Holmes Chapel are shooters and they started determined not to be overawed by the Premier leaders. Andrew Rushton opened with 2 clean 3 pointers and then followed with some closer in work. Sam Barnard scored off a turn around jump shot and Zander Fyfe made his customary entry into the game by scoring a 3 pointer with his first shot. But YMCA were matching the Hornets stride for stride, mixing up outside shots with inside pressure. Tush scored his third 3 of the quarter on the buzzer and Hornets had a one point lead.
Andy Sienkiewicz scored a stunning basket to open Q2 and Tom Lee opened his scoring with his sniper sights set to maximum length. Sam Bithell dropped back to back 3 pointers and the YMCA looked rattled as the Hornets were 6 points clear and playing the better basketball. Guy Johnson landed a well work jump shot and it took a late flurry from the YMCA to cut the Hornet lead to 4 points at the break. Was a cup upset on the cards?
Well no! Hornets produced a dreadful spell, 6 minutes in which they scored 2 and YMCA scored 23! Hornets failed to penetrate the YMCA Defence and let easy baskets be scored off turnovers and gave away 10 free throws including a Technical foul. Only the Hornet pride kept them in the match and they attempted to come back but now from a long way behind. quick baskets were scored, Guy, Barney and Tush all found gaps close in and Danny Wareham landed a 3 pointer to end the quarter to finish Q3 with the Hornets 8 behind.
Hornets tried to bridge the gap but were countered at every move by the YMCA. Zander popped a jump shot and Barney and Tush both scored with low post moves. Tush landed a 2 pointer but all of this was being matched with excellent shooting at the other end and the Hornets could not get the gap below 8. Hornets now pressed and Sam was left open for his third 3 of the night - but YMCA were breaking well now and scoring with each offence. Hornets rattled some late points but couldn’t build any pressure on a well drilled YMCA team.
Next year fellas!
Top Scorer - Tush 28 Points
Played Out of their skin - Barney - in a tough match up all night scored 18 and cleaned boards. We didn’t give him enough ball though.
Best Basket - Super passing movement around the zone and then in for Andy to finish off a drive.
Must Improve - Composure in pressure situations, when things aren’t going well look to the play book!

We really played well for three quarters - 1, 2 and 4.
Q3, (I believe) we had a 0-19 run - and this is where we lost.
I’d say “better luck next year” - but we don’t need luck; we should have had it in the bag.
The Bummer was right

Thank you for your input, Bummer.
Now shouldn’t you be off to finish your colouring?
Remember to stay inside the lines, or the other kids will pick on you.

Now now Mr Bummer, that isnt very ‘good england’ is it. Not really blown out by 40 with 6 players though was it. See you next year where you wont be as lucky.
Keep up the colouring, it must be very enjoyable for you.

I respect your confidence in your team guys but you’re not very objective. When you play at home you might as well be playing with 7 as the ref’s at yours bring a new definition to the word ‘partisan’. As for your team you can play but with the exception of Tush you don’t have anyone one who can score against proper defence which you will see night in night out in the Prem. So I think you could do with tempering your confidence with a little realism.

Huh? Where is the over confidence?
Have you not read the things barry plummer has said on the other page?
Please read that and then come back and tell us to temper our confidence with realism.
If someone is going to trash talk that much, they have to back it up!
Barry and your team have’nt done that.

Bottom line: The BEST team in the prem only managed to beat a division one team by single figures.
We know we played gash. We let you have a 19-0 run. If we’d have played consistently in each quarter, it would have been a different game completely.
I don’t think there is anything unrealistic about the potential in the Hornets whooping you next time.
