Cardinal Langley – 95
Holmes Chapel 1 – 53
This will be one to forget for Hornets. A poor start gradually turned into a disastrous quarter as the Home side made the most of poor offensive decisions which gave them the chance to break and score at will. Cardinal Langley had 19 on the board before Hornets opened their account and at 23-4 for the quarter the game was virtually over as a contest.
To their credit Hornets pulled their game together at both ends in Q2 and shaded the period 24-23 with Tom Lee’s trio of 3 pointers and 7 hard-earned points from Josh Grooms. However, thoughts of bringing the game close in the 2nd half soon disappeared as the visitors again found no fluency in offense in Q3 and were unable to hold Langley’s Major who scored 13 of their 27.
Q4 was a much closer contest but foul trouble contributed to Hornet’s inability to gain stops and a late flurry of 8 points from Alain Thomas could not disguise frailties in offence. Tom and Alain top scored for Hornets on 12 each but the journey back down the motorway was a sombre one for all concerned.
